Common Core Standards
Selecting the Right Curriculum Standards
These standards were developed by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center). The standards are considered to be high quality and cover mathematics and English language arts (ELA). They are the basics and emphasize what a student should learn and be able to accomplish by the end of each school year. Thus far 41 states have adopted these standards, however due to the controversy nature of the standards some states have abstained. Each standards is considered;
- Developed based on relevant research and best practice evidence
- Consistent with current state standards
- Developed with post-secondary and career expectations in mind
- Based on content knowledge and critical thinking skills development
